The unit was established in 1992 to follow up on intelligence stemming from narcotics investigations. It is staffed with veterans of law enforcement with years of experience in NYPD's Narcotics Division and the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force. The unit develops investigations with SIB and Trial Division assistants and with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in the city and across the country.
